Exmoor is one of our smaller National Parks and is a land of incomparable variety and beauty - of bracken covered combes, wide expanses of heather and grass moorland, spectacular cliffs and wooded river valleys.
The maze of tiny streams that begin their life on Exmoor converge on the sea at one point - Lynmouth, via the West Lyn and East Lyn rivers.
Miles of superb cliff top scenery and beautiful countryside make this one of Devon's most scenic areas.
Thatched cottages and shops surround a pretty harbour full of gently bobbing boats.
Deck chairs beside the river, cream teas, pleasure trips and boats to hire, tennis courts and putting greens in the pleasant garden alongside the sea edge. Spot the wild goats in the Valley of the Rocks. See the museum of the 1952 Flood Disaster. There are numerous old inns, restaurants and shops to sample within the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth.
Royal Castle Lodge was built in the 16thC as a Lodge House to the Castle Hotel. Occupying an enviable position on the edge of Lynton village, it is surrounded by the most dramatic scenery, yet with most shops, post office, bank, a good choice of pubs and restaurants and of course the sea within easy walking distance. There is no need to use the car.
Royal Castle Lodge is built out of local stone with a water reed thatch and a unique rustic Alpine style balcony built under the thatch. There is outside lighting and you can sit out on the balcony at any time and in any weather. The cottage is detached and completely self-contained with its own garden and parking area. Visiting squirrels and many different species of birds available by invitation - just leave some tit bits.
Inside, though the cottage has been fully renovated, it retains a wealth of character. It is fully equipped to residential standards and is easy to keep warm and cosy at all times of the year. Easy level access and a stable door lead to a comfortable lounge with exposed beams, radiator, and Electric Wood Burner style fire, comfy armchairs etc, colour TV.
The galley style kitchen is fitted with modern units and includes a full sized fan assisted electric oven, four ring hob with extractor fan, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, filter coffee maker, automatic kettle. Ample cutlery, utensils etc. Radiator. Kitchen towels supplied.
The large bedroom overlooks the garden and has a king size bed with canopy, masses of drawer and wardrobe space, dressing table, hair dryer, colour TV, radiator. Duvets and all linen supplied so no washing when you go home!
A large warm bathroom is at the rear with bath and 'telephone' type shower. Electric shaver socket. All towels are supplied.
Hot water and all heating is at your complete control. Iron and ironing board supplied.
Everyone is welcome - we do not impose any petty restrictions - just come and relax!
