Minehead Sailing And Watersports Club

Minehead Sailing and Watersports Club

Minehead Sailing Club was established around 1960 and has been promoting sailing in the area ever since. The sailing club merged with the Channel Rowing Club in September 2002, and changed its name to the Minehead Sailing and Watersports Club to reflect its wider range of water activities on offer.

In the past most members bought a single type of boat – generally a dayboat, and racing in a large fleet most weekends was the norm. A racing programme remains, with around twenty races a year while many members enjoy leisurely sailing along the beautiful Exmoor coast. The regatta is the high point of the season with visitors from all the other watersport clubs in the area.

The Channel Rowing Club was formed in June 2001 by five Minehead men, four from the Minehead Lifeboat Crew, following a trip to Teignmouth to watch the World Seine Boat Championships.

Due to the tides in Minehead the opportunities to row are more limited than in other areas, however we do try to row throughout the year and have a Club row about once a week during the summer months.
