Start date: 04/04/2004    Ending date: 04/04/2004    Day of the week: Sunday

Organised by: Exmoor Rotary Club

Costs:

Comments: This is an annual competition between two Rotary Districts, 1170 and 1200. Two routes are provided, most do the longer one of about 12 miles.

The Rotary Exmoor Challenge is also a gentle competition between Rotary Districts 1170 and 1200 for the Rotary Challenge Shield. Rotarians and their families and friends from each district earn one point for completing the 6 mile walk or two points for completing the 12 mile walk. The Governor of the district with the most points receives the Shield, at our President's Night on 23 May.

The Challenge

Every year, the Exmoor Rotary Club holds The Rotary Exmoor Challenge. The Challenge is an amiable 12 mile competitive walk between Districts 1170 and 1200 over open moorland and along river valleys or a similar 7 mile walk for those who prefer a shorter walk.

Every Rotarian their family and friends completing either walk earns points for their District. The District with the most points wins the Challenge Shield for a year.

The walk also raises money through sponsorship and entry fees for The Children’s Hospice South West, which exists almost entirely from donations.
The Walk

The walk starts and finishes at Upton Village Hall, Upton in West Somerset next to The Lowtrow Cross Inn on the B3190.

Registration is between 9.30-11am and everyone is expected to finish by 4pm.

Before and after the walk, Exmoor Club serves complimentary refreshments in the Village Hall.

The aim of the Organising Committee this year is to provide the riders with an achievable challenge in all three classes and, hopefully, to be rewarded with some medal-winning performances, especially in the Griffin NuuMed Golden Horseshoe, but also in the supporting classes – the Exmoor Stag and the Exmoor Eighty - all of which are held over two days, Monday and Tuesday 24th and 25th May, with the vetting for all three classes being held on Sunday morning 23rd May.
